MEET JACOB
Commissioner and Community Member
JACOB'S STORY
Jacob Toomey is a third-generation Michigander and a resident of Eaton County for over 20 years. Jacob's family story is one of hard work and service, starting with his grandparents. Jacob's grandfather, Jack, served in the military and proudly worked as a skilled tradesman at General Motors for 40 years. His grandmother, Souad, immigrated to the US from Lebanon where she worked as a local teacher and passionate volunteer at the church. Throughout his youth, Jack and Souad taught Jacob to lead by example, work hard, and love his community— ultimately guiding him into a life of public service.
Jacob's parents, Leon and Linda, moved to Dimondale, Michigan to live out their dreams of starting a family and their very own small business. Jacob still lives in the Village of Dimondale where he has instilled strong community roots working with local government, schools, and individual community members.
COMMUNITY FIRST
Jacob was elected to public office for the first time at just 18 years old when he won his race for Dimondale Village Trustee. As a Trustee, Jacob served on the department of public works, administration, and communications committees. During his time on the Village Board, Jacob took a bipartisan approach to getting stuff done. He championed numerous public safety projects, increased high-speed internet access, expanded recreation opportunities, and worked to improve government transparency. Jacob also passed responsible budgets, growing the Village of Dimondale's general fund balance by over 10% from 2020-22.
PEOPLE OVER POLITICS
Jacob got his start in state politics working as the campaign manager for State Representative Angela Witwer. As campaign manager, Jacob strategized and ran the third largest GOTV program of any State House race in Michigan during that election year— leading the 160 member team to a record-breaking double-digit victory at the polls.
Currently, Jacob works for State Representative Jason Morgan as his legislative director. Among other duties, Jacob advises on legislation and works closely with Democrat and Republican lawmakers around the State to fix the problems facing everyday Michiganders.
LEADERSHIP
